Location
The photo was taken in one of the popular views in Yosemite in November 2018. You can feel in the air the slight fog from the distant fires. There was no water in any of the waterfalls and Merced river was very still and calm. I was camping in the valley that day and had the first one-to-one encounter with a black bear near Yosemite Falls.Time
The image was taken moments after the sunrise in a cold November morning.Lighting
The weather forecast (as usual for all my Yosemite visits) was blue skies. That's why I wasn't expecting much. However, there were a few clouds and the fog from the fires made the light cool a bit surreal.Equipment
I use Canon 6D mark II with Canon 16-35mm F4 L lens on a Manfrotto tripod with Circular Polarizer.Inspiration
I had already been in this location and it is incredible popular. So, I wasn't expecting much. I was traveling to California for work and decided to try solo camping in Yosemite and walk in the morning for photos. At the end the result was much better that what I hoped for.Editing
This is a stack of a few exposure. I used couple exposures to bring back the much brighter sky. Additionally, I had one more other exposure for focus stacking since the foreground was too close to the camera. In my camera bag
I have Canon 6D mark II, 16-35 F4 lens, 70-200 F4 lens and Samyang 24mm f1.4 for occasional night photography.Feedback
Get up early and go out shooting. What helped me in my photography lately (I am amateur doing this for fun occasionally) is switching from Sony A7 to Canon 6D mark II for these amazing zoom lenses. Before I had other amazing, but prime lenses. I really liked them but was often not happy with my compositions. After getting these zooms, I started experimenting more with composition and often have more options for composition. Obviously the brand of the gear does not really matter so much, but having options with lenses help me experiment more with my compositions.
