Location
Taken at Britannia Beach, Ottawa Canada.Time
This was one of those 'unexpected' shots. I noticed the sky was forming up for a decent sunset, so I drove down to the river which usually supplies a good view of the horizon. It was a miserably cold day and when I got there the parking lot was almost empty. The few cars there had parked near the entrance, away from the beach and I didn't realise why until I saw that the parking lot was flooded. This was not the shot I was looking for but I could not resit the wonderful reflections.Lighting
As usual, shooting into the sunset is difficult and I took several shots using the exposure value setting to adjust the exposure. All using an aperture of f5.6 which has proved to be the sweet spot for this lens.Equipment
Taken with a Panasonic FZ30 which unfortunately has stopped working.Inspiration
I totally love sunrise and sunset. I love having kids with me and teaching them that the sun does NOT set, the earth is rolling away from the sun. Having a soccer ball and a smaller ball with me helps explain this and when they catch on I have them put their arms out and fly like they are on the bow of the Titanic, but balancing the earth beneath them to roll away from the sun. They go away having learned something that many adults don't understand! Flying into the sunrise is even more impressive for them. Kids love doing this!Editing
I had to clone out a lamp post that was in the tree line and adjust the levels for the shadows to bring out the snow.In my camera bag
Now I carry a Canon EOS T6i with the standard and telephoto zoom lenses. I also have an amazing Canon 1-22mm zoom that I received as a gift. I use a Swiss brand small backpack camera back which is very compact and well designed. My tripod is strapped to the outside and it also has pockets for a water bottle and other extras.Feedback
Go out when the weather is not welcoming. You'll have more space and capture shots that everyone staying warm inside has missed.
