Location
The photo was taken last winter in Valladolid, an inland city located in the northwest of Spain, with many cold and foggy days. Long ago it was the capital of the kingdom of which some architectural landmarks remain.Time
It was close to noon. At dawn with fog I saw the possibilities to take some interesting photos of the city. I headed for the banks of the Pisuerga, a river that crosses the city, surrounded by lush parks and whose humidity makes the fog stick to the city. And there I took several photos, but the cold of the first hours made me return home. Crossing the city I passed the Church of San Pablo and the statue of King Felipe II. Although the fog was not so thick away from the river, I saw possibilities of creating an attractive atmosphere with those elements: church, statue and fog. And here the result.Lighting
Although it was close to noon, the overcast sky and the fog made for a gray and dull environment, cold as the city itself. I thought it was a great environment for the image, the stone history of a city that was once great.Equipment
It was shot with a Canon EOS 80D and a 18-55mm lens by hand, no tripod.Inspiration
As I said before, it was the special atmosphere created by the fog and the view of a historical monument such as the church and the statue of the king in front of it surrounded by this gray light that touched me.Editing
There was only few touches of contrast and tone.In my camera bag
I always trust in the versatility of the 18-55mm. I also usually pack a 55-250mm for those moments when something interesting shows up in the distance. And my favorite for short distances, a 50mm 2.8, which gives me extraordinary bokeh and beautiful light.Feedback
In this case it was a somewhat casual encounter. I went out to take photos in a certain environment (the river, its bank) with the special touch of fog. And it was when I returned home when I found myself, without thinking about it, with this scenario. I have always thought that photography is a matter of patience, planning and preparation, but also one of its genius is being in the right place at the right time. In this case, a foggy ride gave this nice result.
