Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken down the road from my house in Queensland Australia. It was a Winter afternoon and I couldn’t resist heading out and capturing the colours in the sky.

Time

This was taken around 5pm as the sunset on a winters afternoon in Australia Queensland.

Lighting

The sun goes down really quickly once it hits the horizon, so I just keep taking pictures and adjusting my aperture and shutter speed until I get the desired look.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D3200 camera with a lens of 18-55.

Inspiration

I love taking sunset pictures as they are never the same. I love the different colours in the sky and adding clouds give the picture a different dimension and texture to the pictures.

Editing

As this is a panorama shot, I had to put a couple of different photos together to make the whole picture. I did this in photoshop. I then slightly changed the brightness and contrast of the picture, so the colours and the clouds were more defined and stood out more. I don’t like editing my pictures to much, as I want the viewer to see as much of the natural beauty as possible.

In my camera bag

I have heaps in my camera bag. I have my Nikon D5100 camera, 18-55 lens, 55-200 lens, a telescopic lens (great for moon shots) different sized lens balls, spare batteries and SD cards. There is even room for a tripod as well, but I rarely take it.

Feedback

If you are trying to capture something similar, just get out there and practice. I take heaps of shots, but might only like a handful. I’m my own worst critic. The more you fiddle and practice, the better you will become. I’m still learning as I go.
