Behind The Lens
Location
Taken through my front window. The berries on my ornamental crabapple tree seem to attract a variety of birds in the winter when most other food sources are buried in snow. On the day of the shoot, we had had a bad freezing rain storm and even this food was difficult to reach, as everything was covered in ice.Time
This was taken early morning after a night of freezing rain.Lighting
Lighting was good which was just as well because flash does not work well through glass.Equipment
Used my Panasonic Lumix FZ200 24X zoom camera, hand held. No flash.Inspiration
The sight of this beautiful bird struggling to reach a food source under harsh conditions made me grab my camera for a shot. This was a male Cedar Waxwing. The red spots on the wings are only found on the males.Editing
The only processing was a bit of cropping to bring the scene in closer. In my camera bag
I always carry a spare battery and sd card, along with lens wipes.Feedback
Always keep a camera handy. You never know when a photo-op will occur and you often miss a great photo if you don't have your equipment close and ready,
