Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Alresford, Essex of the church ruins about 28 years ago.

Time

I took this just after sunset so it was dark with a little bit of colour let in the sky.

Lighting

I used a 30 second exposure, while the shutter was open I ran round the churchyard with my flash and lit some of the church and use a red filter over the flash to light the foreground.

Equipment

I used a Canon 1000fn 35mm film camera. Not sure of which tripod and flash I had back then.

Inspiration

I had seen some photos in magazines using the painting with light technique and I really wanted to do something like that.

Editing

No.

In my camera bag

I usually carry at least 3 different lenses at all times.

Feedback

These days it’s much easier to do this kind of photo as you can see the results straight away. Just keep adjusting the shutter speed and f stop until you get the pic.
