“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”― Fred Rogers

Watching this scene unfold on October 21, 2020 I decided to apply to become a volunteer firefighter and receive the training needed so I don’t just have to sit back and watch. Ive been working on my application today. I’m called to be on the front lines. Watching the fire engine scream right into the beast had me really wanting to hop on board. This moment is imprinted on my mind. Being a bystander is no longer an option for me. All of you rescue workers and first responders are a humble heroes. Heading right into danger, tirelessly working and being the support system for those who’ve lost almost everything. If you’re interested in volunteering, just do a quick google search and you’ll find there are all sorts of opportunities. At the very least consider donating to a effort you feel drawn to. It’s time for us to band together regardless of the political vitriol.
