Behind The Lens
Location
This was taken in the Land Between the Lakes (LBL) area in western KY close to Barkley Dam.Time
This was around 7am in the morning just after the golden hour.Lighting
This was shortly after the golden hour in the am, I feel the light at this time is the best for a softer light and it's still close to horizontal which helps cast an even light over the subject and less shadows. The Eagle is of course higher than the camera and when the light rises the underneath becomes darker plus the whites can get blown out trying to compensate.Equipment
Canon 5D Mark IV Canon EF 600mm Lens 1:4 L IS USM Manfrotto Tripod Gimbal Tripod HeadInspiration
Getting action shots is what I always strive to capture and flying is good but the stop action of the take off is what most people don't get to enjoy because it happens so quick. This also allows for better definition of the the feathers and other features to naturally stand out.Editing
In CS6 I did adjustments in curves and levels along with touching up colors where needed then finished it with High Pass at 50% for sharper image. In my camera bag
I carry the 5D Mark IV plus a 7D backup and 600mm1:4, 100-400 1:4.5-5.6 L IS II USM, 50mm 1:1.4, 100mm macro,2x Extender, lens filters, extra batteries W/Charger, cleaning supplies. All lens are CanonFeedback
Just get out as often as possible as the opportunities are rare and you have to be patient as these birds can stay put for long periods of time and be ready with camera set correctly LOL. Just get out there and watch how they act and you just might be in the right spot at the right time setting up based on that information. KEEP CLICKING and HAVE FUN !
