Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at one of the many beaches located on the coastal drive at Esperance, Western Australia. Many from that day turned out a bit flat as the sea seemed to be steely grey.

Time

We had set out around lunchtime, so may have been about 2 or 3pm

Lighting

It was a beautiful day, (as it always seems to be in Oz), with very few clouds around, and the picture was taken without a filter.

Equipment

Shot using a Canon 550d with a 18-55mm IS, with a shutter speed of 1/160 at f10.

Inspiration

I was trying to find something a little different from the usual holiday snap.

Editing

The shot did require a little straightening, cropping and contrast tweaking.

In my camera bag

Usually carry 2 camera bodies, a Canon 550d and a recently purchased Canon 750d, with 3 lenses, 18-55mm, 55-250mm and a Yongnou 50mm, (which I have recently upgraded to the Canon nifty fifty 1.8). I mainly use the camera flash when it's required, but also carry a Yongnou YN560IV speedlight, and always have 2 spare batteries and several memory cards. Finally 2 remotes, one wireless and one tethered, and a K&F Concept tripod.

Feedback

Having spent several years taking fairly poor/average pictures, I finally got the best bit of advice from a friend.....slow down and take your time...particularly with landscapes, they're not going anywhere.
