Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in my back garden in Scotland....at a moment's notice.

Time

Shot in the late afternoon/early evening.

Lighting

Given the time of day, and the fact it was taken in Scotland, the sky was dull and overcast thereby giving less light than I would have liked.

Equipment

Had just bought a used Canon 550d and a 55-250 f4-5.6 IS STM lens. Lighting was just natural and camera was hand held.

Inspiration

I had noticed some squirrels of the previous weeks running along the dividing wall between me and my neighbour. They were going for her bird feeder and scurrying back to their dray, so I decided to leave my equipment in the kitchen.....just in case. Managed to get a few images, but this was probably the best.

Editing

Needed to crop tight into the subject, and add a little saturation to make it sing a bit more.

In my camera bag

These days I still carry my 550d for back up, but my main camera is now a Canon 750d (if I can become a bit more proficient, I may take a punt at a full frame, probably a 6D). I also carry my trusty kit Canon 18-55mm IS STM lens, and recently upgraded my 55-250mm to a 70-200mm f4 L STM. Always have a flash and a few filters, and my K&C tripod.

Feedback

It's just a case of keeping you eyes open, and you kit close at hand....and try to be patient and not rush it.
