Behind The Lens

Location

I went for my street photography at the outskirt of town Durgapur, West Bengal, India. I found this lady working on the field alone. I took the shot.

Time

I started my journey toward the village in the morning. But when I reached there it was midday. It was in autumn. The sky is full of clouds. But I intentionally excluded the dramatic sky, when I saw a better drama of the lady with red sharee against the green backdrop. Exact time and date of the photo taken were not in my memory. I have to check my original file and checked the EXIF. I found that it was taken on 31.08.2011 at 12.16 pm.

Lighting

As I was mentioning, it was midday. The sun is overhead. The sky is full of clouds, as it was seen this part of the glove during this time only. But I deliberately excluded the sky, because midday sun created beautiful texture in the field. I saw an s-curve created y the track of the field and I composed the frame keeping the lady off-centre and unaware.

Equipment

The photo was taken by my prosumer camera sony DSC-H50 and Exif is f/5.6, 1/500 sec, ISO-100. It was taken in held-held position. No other equipment was used, no tripod, no flash.

Inspiration

Seeing the s-curve and complementary colours of green and red and the texture of the field inspired me to take the shoot. The parasol pulled out the drama to its best.

Editing

Yes, I did the basic post-processing of the image, like spot removal, colour correction, level correction. Nothing much.

In my camera bag

Normally I use Nikon D750 and Nikon D90. Somehow during the shot, i was not having both the cameras. So I have to depend on my very old prosumer Sony DSC-H50. And it rewarded me as always.

Feedback

I believe that composition is key to the success of any photograph. So we have to follow the basics of it, like identifying elements of design and principles of organising the elements and then comes to the rules of composition. After knowing all these then only we can break the rule and go creative.
