Behind The Lens

Location

I shot this picture in the Amsterdam water supply dunes, a varied dune area between Zandvoort and Noordwijk, in the Netherlands.

Time

The photo was taken around 11 a.m.

Lighting

the photo was taken at the edge of the forest, where the light was not optimal, so the ISO had to be raised

Equipment

Nikon D500 with Tamron 150-600 f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2, op 280 mm ( 35mm = 420 mm), f/6.3, 1/1600sec, iso 6400, taken out of hand.

Inspiration

This photo "Fallow deer" was taken during the rutting season of the fallow deer, the deer then migrate to a fixed area within the water supply dunes. This impressive spectacle with noisy grunting can often be heard from afar. During this period, males look their most imposing, like the male in the photo, who was keeping a close eye on the competition from the edge of the forest. The rutting season, which takes place in the second half of October, keeps the male constantly busy. He has to keep all the hinds together and fend off the competition, resulting in impressive fights.

Editing

I slightly cropped the photo and lightened the shadows a bit

In my camera bag

Feedback

Many fallow deer walk in this area, the deer are used to people, so you can get close to the deer, but always keep a proper distance from the animals, respect that you are in their habitat
