Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken near Two Jack Lake in the Banff area. I went up for the day to have some quiet time; it was smoky from the fires in the US and visibility was limited. You could barely tell you were in the mountains for all the smoke. I took a quick detour and this is what I found. The hazy skies, still water, and quiet made me think about how this is the soundwave of nature. It became a very rejuvenating day when I really needed one.Time
This was taken in the afternoon, shortly before I started to head home for the day. Even though it was a warm day, the haze of the smoke ensures you can barely tell what time of day it was.Lighting
The haze from the smoke gives this picture a surreal feeling. It feels like you are walking in a dream where you can't quite see all your surroundings. The suns rays were stunted by the smoke and allowed for the softness of nature to take over.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Sony A6300. The lens used was a Sigma 16mm wide angle lens. No tripod or flash was used, it was handheld.Inspiration
I had been shooting at Lake Minewanka for a while and I decided to head into town. On my way, I took a quick detour off the main road because I "saw something that looked interesting". I thought I would find maybe a nice reflection of the trees on water, had no idea this beautiful sight was waiting for me. It was quiet and I was all alone there, listening to the soundwaves of nature.Editing
This was a raw image so I did a little processing to intensify the color of the water and trees. In my camera bag
I typically only carry two lenses with me: a Sigma 16mm Wide Angle and a Sony FE 90mm macro lens. I find I can usually get the shot I want with one of those two lenses. This day I did bring my tripod as well, though this shot was taken with a handheld camera.Feedback
I always recommend taking shots of something that speaks to you - if you find beauty in it, someone else will as well. Use your instincts to capture what really speaks to you so you can share your version of the world with others. We all see things in a different way and that is what makes photography so diverse and beautiful.
