I took this photograph on the beach of La Serena, during a beautiful sunset, when I began to venture into portrait photography.Time
Hmm, it was in mid-June 2019, with a college classmate who is also an excellent dancer.Lighting
We only use natural light, the beautiful sunset light. I didn't have any more back then either. I remember thinking how useful a reflector would have been. However, she was more than happy with the results, and so was I.Equipment
I took everything I had back then: My Nikon D3000 camera and a Nikkor 50mm 1.8 E analog lensInspiration
I had never had such a talented dancer in front of me, and I asked her to take a jump to think of something when I saw it ... Then I turned to see the sunset and poof ... I had to capture the silhouette of her jump with the colors of the sky behind ... It was difficult to focus on the exact point and capture the right moment of the jump and also manage to hide the blinding brightness of the sun.Editing
I usually work only in Lightroom, to edit only in terms of light, and a bit of color on certain occasions, to give more sharpness. In my camera bag
Back then I brought my camera, its 18-55mm kit lens and the 50mm analog. Now I added to the collection a 135mm 2.8 also analog and a 35mm AF-S. What changed my life was the use of a reflector. I use a 5-in-1 with a diameter of 120cm. The tripod and handheld flash I use very little in outdoor portraiture.Feedback
Portraying people doing what they love is very rewarding, if you have the opportunity to work with them, do it. It is enriching.
