Historic Roosevelt Arch has welcomed visitors to Yellowstone National Park since its construction in 1903. The arch marks the park's popular;ar North Entrance at Gardiner, MT. President Teddy Roosevelt laid the arch cornerstone during a much publicized tour through the western United States. Standing atop the partially completed structure Roosevelt reminded onlookers of the National Park's creation and purpose quoting from the 1872 Organic Act which created Yellowstone: "For the benefit and enjoyment of the people." Roosevelts reminder was placed above the arched entrance to the park. Each time I pass through the historic North Entrance I am thankful for those who had the foresight to establish our national park system for the benefit and enjoyment of all.
