Location
This photo was taken in the beautiful Sicilian beach called "Le Pergole", near the most famous "Scala dei Turchi Il Muro Bianco" - Realmonte - AGRIGENTO. I have searched a long time without success for a place on the coast without light pollution and an interesting subject aligned with the galactic center of the Milky Way. When I finally found it I couldn't believe my eyes: it was exactly the place I had always imaginedTime
I always plan my shots on the Milky Way. I usually wait for a moonless night in the summer. At this time of year the visibility of the Milky Way's galactic center is optimal, furthermore in the second week of August the Perseids illuminate the night skies and often if you are lucky you can take a picture with their trails.Lighting
The light of a ship in the center of the horizon line and the Milky Way capture the observer's attention and illuminate the ruins on the beach like a lighthouse.Equipment
I used Nikon D750 with Tokina 11-20 f / 2.8 lens, on tripod and ir remote. You need nothing more than time and patience.Inspiration
I usually use www.lightpollutionmaps.info to check the light pollution level of the spot. I usually plan the composition with google maps, photpills and studying other shots of similar subjects and places. I prefer to shoot on a New Moon and with clear and windy skies.Editing
Usually I save the raw image. in addition to the usual adjustments, I postprocessed this photo by applying a selective white balance, I emphasized the Milky Way by lowering the exposure of the rest of the scene. In my camera bag
My first camera was a coolpix with simply manual control. In my opinion, the best equipment doesn't always mean great photos. Each shot must be planned and studied. I love night photography and in my bag there are always: a wide angle (less than 24mm) and fast (minimum f / 4) lens for landscapes, tripod, IR remote control, 50mm f / 1.4, stabilized tele zoom and ... a lot of patience.Feedback
Always plan your shot, check light pollution, choose the right time of year, use tripod, IR remote control. Use passion
