Location
I live by the sea on an island, and this was taken on one of the other smaller islands close to my home. These island are perfect for sunsets because most of the year, except in summer, the sun sets into the sea.Time
It was taken at sunset. There was almost no clouds towards the setting sun. So as I turned in the opposite direction, I saw these clouds starting to get some color. I moved around a bit to see if I could get some foreground in my composition and saw this pool of water. As I approached the pool, I saw the reflection of the clouds made a perfect circle.Lighting
My favorite color is blue, but I really don’t like blue skies. Blue skies without clouds, its the definition of boring. The photos are blue and no dynamic. I usually shoot the 30 minutes before and after sunset or sunrise. I get the warmer tones and longer shadows.Equipment
I used my iPhone X on a tripod.Inspiration
I am always out shooting and always around sunset. This evening I went with another photographer to look for small pools like this at the seaside.Editing
I edited this on my iPhone using Lightroom Mobile app. I always shoot in RAW/DNG in the Lr mobile app and in HDR-mode. I use my usual edit of opening the shadows and bringing down the highlights a bit. Boost the vibrance and some local adjustments with radial tool.In my camera bag
I shoot 80% with my iPhone on a tripod. I recently bought a 12proMax, which is excellent, especially the night mode. But I always bring my bag with me. There I have a Nikon D750 with a 24-70mm f2.8. I also bring my old D7000 with a Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 if I want the really wide shots.Feedback
Go out and shoot. Bring your camera or phone when you only go for a short walk. Practice practice practice. I see many make excuses for only shooting with a smartphone when the photos lack composition, sharpness etc. Well, I think if you can not make a good photo with a smartphone, it will not be very much better with a DSLR. ????
