Location
It all started with a fennel plant. I love to watch the female Black Swallowtail dance among the fennel laying her eggs. To save the larva from the birds I bring them inside and feed them parsley. After 3-4 weeks they turn into a pupa stage and cocoon for 10-20 days. When they hatch I'll take a net and place them inside and free them in our butterfly garden. This one landed on a Lantana plant for it's first meal.My husband and I started doing this for 2 seasons now and have released 150 Black Swallowtails. We also save Monarchs.Time
After 24 hours of keeping the Black Swallowtail inside it must have it's wings dried out for flight. So I set them free in the morning as long as it's 75 degrees.Lighting
I like the morning light because it's less hazy from a bright sunlight.Equipment
