On a sunny day in the Summer of 2020, I sat on my deck in NY watching the different hummingbird feeders. Given the pandemic, it was a way to relax and escape the fears of the time.Time
The hummingbirds and bees always came out at midday. They competed for the nectar on the feeder. I found this unique and noticed how they were approaching the feeder and co-existing to get the sweetness of the nectar.Lighting
I wanted to make sure that the lighting was coming from the southeast corridor towards the given hummingbird feeder. It would not be bright, but enough sunlight to shine the colors of each.Equipment
I used the Sony A7IIIR camera, and a 200-600 mm SONY lens. I did not use a tripod and instead placed the camera on the outdoor table to stabilize it, focused, and took the picture.Inspiration
I observed the hummingbird and the bee flying around each other to avoid conflict on the feeder. In a moment, the two flew away from the feeder and were facing each other as if to embrace their friendship in sharing. It reminded me that in tough times, kindness prevails, and even when there are differences, the two can coexist peacefully.Editing
I did not do any post-processing as I believed it was a unique picture. I just added my signature to the picture. In my camera bag
I always have my SONY A7IIIR camera, 200-600mm SONY lens as well as the new addition of the 100-400 mm SONY lens. I do own a tripod that I utilize for the best picture possible.Feedback
I would suggest always having the equipment close by. Observe the environment around you and take several pictures as one will eventually tell a beautiful story! Don't give up!
