Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken on our property in North Georgia. I love the moss that thrives in this particular area, providing a soft carpet to sit and enjoy the woods.

Time

I'd like to think this is the best representation of my work, and favorite location to shoot. It's part moody, part fall and features the perfect variety of texture. While I don't remember the exact time of day, I do remember it was in the evening, around 5pm.

Lighting

This area of the property offers a lot of tree cover to diffuse lighting. During the right time of day, there is an abundance of soft, natural light.

Equipment

Nikon D3500 with a Nikon 50mm f/1.8.

Inspiration

Each year, in the fall, I sew my daughters a few handmade dresses. If the dress turns out to be better than I expected, I feel inspired to setup a mini photo shoot. Fall is my favorite season, and my youngest daughter is always up for time in front of Mom's camera.

Editing

My youngest daughter moves around, A LOT. She has a sensory processing disorder, and you have to shoot fast. My settings were not perfect for this location, so I adjusted the settings in Lightroom afterward. I am really pleased with how it turned out, considering.

In my camera bag

I have never had a big photography budget, simply because it's a hobby. My bag typically consists of my D3500, and 50mm lens - because it's my go to. Someday I hope to expand my lens collection, though!

Feedback

If at first you don't succeed, try, try, again. Practice makes perfect, and I have found taking a hike in the woods (my favorite place on earth), with my camera, to be the best method of improvement.
