Behind The Lens
Location
During senior yearbook sessions, I transform my living room into a small studio with a 3 light setup.Time
Since we are inside, I can create this look any time of day.Lighting
I use Godox lighting. With an AD600BM as my main, paired with a CheetahStand 26” Quick SoupBowl modifier and Neewer 6x2’ curved reflector for fill, this gives me nice soft lighting for my subjects. To help them stand out against the backdrop, I have and AD200 with a strip box for a hairlight and a second one in a Godox reflector made specifically for backdrop lighting.Equipment
Camera setup: Canon EOS R with Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM at f/10, 1/200 sec., ISO 100 and typically at 85mm. Lighting, as I explained it in the previous question: Godox AD600BM as main with Neewer curved reflector for fill, AD200 for hairlight and another AD200 for backdrop. My lights are on C stands made by Neewer, with the main light being on a Calumet Redwing boom arm. I have my camera on a 3LeggedThing Albert 2.0 carbon fiber tripod.Inspiration
During my senior portrait sessions, we do get the yearbook photo first and then in the cap & gown, but I always ask my seniors to bring sports related garb or a casual top.Editing
Yes, I correct exposure and color in Lightroom and then take the photo to Photoshop for frequency separation and some other processes. In my camera bag
For my studio work, aside from the camera and lens mentioned above, I have to have a lens cleaner rag, extra batteries for my camera and light triggers. When on location, I typically pack the Canon EOS R6, Samyang 14mm f/2.8 Super Wide Angle, AF, Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM, Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art and Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM. A laser tape measure, light meter and colorchecker passport to make sure my colors are what they should be.Feedback
Practice and practice.
