I was in my backyard and noticed this cicada husk attached to our fence. I’m from Iowa in the United States. Cicadas only come out during the late summer months and sing to attract mates. They live for 17 years attached to tree roots to feed and thrive until they come up above ground, molt, unfurl wings and basically just breed non stop for about two weeks until they pass away. It wouldn’t be a summer in the Midwest without hearing a cicada song.
