Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken during my cousin's wedding in Port Louis, Mauritius, beginning of December 2019. This is 1 of her bridesmaids and they all dressed up absolutely beautifully, the well-set henna designs, pink Indian style sarees, and the bindis.

Time

In Mauritius summertime, lunchtime can be a hell hot in the city PL. Inside the markee were places several fans along with indoor portable aircons to keep the inside cool. Here we were waiting for the groom to come to the venue and i grabbed a quick acrion shots of everybody moving about doing their bits.

Lighting

Everything was lit up by the lunchtime sun, a clear blue sky with a pinch of clouds.

Equipment

Camera firmly strapped to my hand, I had some parts to take in the ceremonies. The only equipment used here is a Nikon D3300 with a Nikkor DX 35 mm.

Inspiration

I have seen so many Indian wedding photographers taking immense shots and using the event as an inspiration for cultural shoots and adding diversity to work and personal experiences. Having grown up in England, I missed a huge proportion of my root culture growing up. This was my cousin's, my childhood best friend's wedding whom I spent over 10 years apart from growing different lives. The inner child in me always seeks these vibes given off by Indian culture, the prayers, the weddings, the food, the fashion, and design, etc...

Editing

I only added a few adjustments on lightroom. I am not a fan of overly edited, overly smoothed edits, this is probably because I have never had the time to learn and put in the time for those kinds of edits which does take skills to execute.

In my camera bag

All of my pictures have been taken on a Nikon D3300 beginners camera. I also invested in a Sony A7iii white I have mainly used for video shoots and barely any photoshoots. Lens are all stock lenses. I no longer have the 35mm used on the Nikon. Other shots are from the sets of phones I have used over the past 5-6 years.

Feedback

Just go out and start snapping, then reviews them and pick which ones made your best picks and study through trial and error, and automatically your brain will adjust to taking those great shots naturally.
