Location
The photo was taken at Moeraki Boulders, on the North Otago coast , south island, Beach Now Zealand.Time
This location is very popular with tourists who love to climb onto the boulders and have there photo taken, most come by bus , so waited until 5:30pm to get this shot with this selection on boulders as i had wanted the cracked boulder centre. The tide was right but going out fast and the weather was building up but still had some evening light.Lighting
the Light was becoming very muted with a strong orange/red glow in the distance and to my right.Equipment
Camera Sony A7 lll , lens Tamron E 17-28mm at f/11.0 ,28mm, ISO 200 , Shot in Manual, 13sec . Tripod Manfrotto Befrei travel tripod.Inspiration
I Had seen these boulders on a TV travel program and they look almost out of this world even dragon eggs and was one of my goals to visit this location.Editing
processed in lightroom classic , first made a B&W copy with a bit of dodge and burning to bring out some of the texture and to balance the light and darks of the image. A second copy was made in Lightroom classic this time to just work on the colour balance. Both images were loaded into Photoshop 2019 as layers on the overlay mode set on the colour image to colour only. i the played around with the opacity of the colours to achieve the right look. A sharpening layer added and final clean up of spots and some distracting objects. and a vignette added. In my camera bag
Sony A7 lll, Sony 24-104 f4 G, Tamron E 17-28mm E f2.8-2.8, Formatet Hitech ND filter kit, remote trigger, Sony A600, Tripod.Feedback
Be patient go late or very early once the bus's come people will be all over the boulders. slower shutter speeds make a more dream like image , try different timings to find the right look.
