this photo was taken in the ally beside my parents' house in Saskatchewan. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to snap some once in a lifetime pictures of one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever witnessedTime
I took this at about seven thirty p.m. i was outside talking with my brother and dad, and our yard was illuminated by the sunlight. It was such a warm golden colour that it truly looked like something from a fairy tale. i was trying to find a place in the yard where i could take a nice picture, but i remembered some beautiful water colour paintings i was absolutely in love with. the paintings featured a lovely colourful sky with a long string of power lines. normally, i do my best to avoid man made objects when I'm taking pictures of something in nature, but i did it anyway and it turned out to be one of the best pictures I've ever taken.Lighting
i liked how soft the sunset was. it let off a very warm glow that felt comforting and inviting. i thought it would draw viewers in with the warmth of the orange as well as the detailed shading in amongst the clouds. i wanted the tree and power lines to show up as silhouettes to add something dark, but not something so dark it would drown out the sky.Equipment
i used the app huji installed on an IPhone sevenInspiration
Sunsets are my favorite things to phoograph. nobody will ever have the same two pictures of a sunset. theyre always changing and always beautiful. When i seen how animated the sky looked, I knew i needed to take an amazing photo to saver the beautiful scene. "Every time an artist dies, god lets them paint the sunset." as an artist, this quote speaks to me, and every time i see a sunset, i think of all the people in this world with the talent to create such beautyEditing
Nope, i very rarely do anything after the picture has been taken. sometimes i need to brighten them, or turn up the contrast and structure, but normally i leave them how they were takenIn my camera bag
i normally carry two of my favourite books to use as props in case i find a nice background, as well as my clear photo ball, a cell phone charger, and portable charging bank. its not a lot, but Its all i really need until i can afford a proper cameraFeedback
Pay attention. When i was in elementary school, I never cared about sunsets or landscapes. I thought they were pretty, sure. But i never seen them as things you photograph because they were always there. Now, not a day goes by where i don't stare out at a scene and look at it as if it were a photo. I take in details i never would have five years ago. I merely looked at the surface beauty and let everything else slip by. That's something i had to stop doing when i started to get better at photography. My advice would be to make sure you capture the moment as well as the photo. I remember pretty much every picture ive taken as well as the feelings behind it, and that's something i hope to never lose
