Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo inside the Our Lady of the Assumption Chapel at Assumption College. I always wanted to take a photo of this beautiful crucifix since the first time I saw it way back inn 2010.

Time

This was taken in July 2020 at around 9 in the morning while I was preparing for the live streaming of the Holy Mass since we were still in lock down period due to the pandemic. Since students were not allowed to go to school, we have to live stream school events like the Holy Mass.

Lighting

Since the chapel casts dramatic lighting during different times of the day because of the windows, I took that opportunity to take a photo of this beautiful crucifix. Lighting is very essential in every photography and thus we need to always look for a good lighting.

Equipment

This was shot using my iPhone XR. This is a form of mobile photography. No other equipment were used in this photo.

Inspiration

I always wanted to take a photo of this beautiful crucifix since the 1st time I saw it in 2010 when I entered the chapel. I had several shots of it but always coming from the loft or from a different angle. And when I had the opportunity to do so, I took it.

Editing

Post-processing is also essential in photography but I'm not a fan of heavy post-processing. A simple global enhancement will do and that's what I did in this photo. If I'm not mistaken, I only used the editing software that was included in the photo app of my iPhone XR. Shot it in colored then made it to black and white.

In my camera bag

I usually have my Fujifilm XT1 and the 18-55mm kitlens in my bag. But whenever I travel, I bring my Lumix GH5 with M.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 lens and Lumix 25 f/1.7 lens with me since I also do travel videos.

Feedback

Churches, chapels, mosques, temples and museums are picturesque. If you are a beginner or beginning to love photography, you need to consider taking photos of these places. They are rich in culture and aesthetic. These place are timeless. Even professional photographers love to take photos of these places. You'll be amazed of what you can discover if you visit these places. Just be observant of the things around you and you will see the beauty of them waiting to be captured.
