This photo was taken during our vacation in The Island of Boracay, Philippines in 2006. Boracay is one of the best beaches in the world and has the best sunset as well. I really love this place and almost every 2 years I go back here to just relax and see God’s beautiful creation.Time
The Masters of Photography always say that if you really want to have a colorful landscape photo, you have to take it during the “Golden Hour” and I agree with them. This was taken sunset time between 5:50PM-6:15pm. You will really love the sunset in Boracay.Lighting
Lighting whether it’s a natural light or artificial light is one of the key elements that will make your photos beautiful and it showed in this particular photo. You just really have to wait for that special moment where in the lighting will be perfect for your subject.Equipment
This was shot on Nikon D100 with a kitlens and just handheld. This is my friend’s camera and I just borrowed it to take this shot. If I’m not mistaken I took this shot with Aperture Priority settings at ISO 200..Inspiration
Boracay Beach in the Philippines is one of the best beaches in the world. The Sunset here was really beautiful. When I saw my friend that he was not using his camera I borrowed it and took this shot. I had several shots of this moment but the for me this was the perfect one.Editing
I only enhanced it in terms of exposure, contrast and tones using photoshop. That’s it.In my camera bag
Right now I’m using Lumix Cameras and Fujifilm. I usually have my Lumix GH5 with my Olympus M.Zuiko12-40mm f/2.8 PRO and 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO lenses in my bag with a couple of extra batteries, a set of 64GB Extreme Pro V30 Sandisk SD Cards, a blower, lens pen and micro fiber cloth. My camera bag also has some silica gels just to make sure that my gears will be free from some moisture. Or sometimes i bring my Fujifilm XT1 with an 18-55mm f/2.8-4 XF lens if i wanted to have a lighter gear.Feedback
Doing landscape photography is not that simple as others say. Capturing moments like this needs a lot of patience as you wait for the right moment. My photography mentor said that “when doing landscape or street photography you must find your right stage and when you find it don’t just take the shot but you have to wait for the right actors to enter that stage so that your photograph will be complete.” In the case of this specific photograph, I kept that in my mind and followed. Taking photo of this beautiful sunset is a really beautiful stage for me but waiting for the sail boat as my right actor makes the scene perfect. So my final advice in capturing this kind of photography is just to be patient and wait for the perfect moment to unfold.
