Our last morning in Khwai and we were looking for a male leopard who had lost his previous evenings kill to a lioness who had swum the river looking for an easy meal.

We stopped near a small pan to watch the storks and ibis who were enjoying the frogs, snails and termites the rains had drawn out. A fellow traveller was scanning the trees and was pretty sure he could make out the hind quarters of a large spotted cat. It was worth investigating. The cat was in the tree, spread out on a branch. He didn't seem that comfortable though and started to move about, eventually coming down. After marking his territory he started to move through the thick bush. We had to back out of where we were and go around.

We picked him up at the edge of the bush where he sat for a few moments under cover watching a small group of giraffes drift into view. I was rummaging about in my camera bag trying to get hold of my camera with a wider lens on to take a shot of that scene when he decided to move. He leisurely strolled out of the bush and with confidence headed straight through the giraffes. They stood and watched before they nervously bolted.
