Behind The Lens
Location
This photograph was taken during a day walk in the summer of 2020 on the way up to Leigh hill. It was a spur of the moment photo as I noticed what a great shot it would make !Time
The photo was taken in the middle of the day around 1pm, however due to it being a very hot summers day the clarity and vibrancy of the image shone through.Lighting
There was great natural lighting for this photo from the blazing sun and clear skies on this day in June 2020, but also an interesting yet perfect cloud formation providing an eye capturing reflection against the still water surface of the pond.Equipment
I used my iPhone 8 Plus to take this photo ! The apature set for this lens is f/1.8 and by focusing the lens towards the plants in the foreground, this allowed a slightly blurred glistening haze to form in the background.Inspiration
I am always intrigued to capture reflections in my photographs. Whether it be city architecture reflections against the smooth glass panels, or natural formations like above including ponds, lakes and any still water. I believe refelections hold great essence, as they are a distortion of reality yet they provide an alternative viewpoint and can add meaning to a photograph.Editing
I added a few minor adjustments to enhance the vibrant feel to the photograph, firstly I turned the brightness down to -26 as this allowed a greater contrast between the dark blue pond and the white fluffy clouds, also adding depth to the greenery. Next I altered the saturation of the photograph to emphasise the burst of colours captures increasing it by 16.In my camera bag
I believe that it is up to the photographer to create beauty working with their surroundings, therefore by utilising my phone I have demonstrated how even standard equipment can produce stunning outcomes.Feedback
my advice to others would be to immerse yourself in the environment around you, this picture was taken somewhere very local to me, therefore notice something small and make the capture of it great. This will significantly impact your perspective, also look for alternative ways to capture an environment like my use of reflections, perhaps vary the perspective to reinforce the story/symbolism behind the image. Lastly, of course enjoy your moment behind the lens as well as with your own eyes !
