Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken just outside my home, just a few steps down the road! There was a little group of us helping trim back hedges and rose bushes alongside a small Chapel, and these just seemed to shout "Hello!" from a distance. One of those moments where something just catches your eye and needs to be photographed, and the great thing about mobile phone photography is we almost always our phone with us!

Time

Mid-afternoon, on a very bright sunny day. Waiting for a little break in the breeze took for the perfect shot took a while, as the flower heads were being blown around a little, but the image was definitely worth the wait.

Lighting

I wanted to capture the lighting exactly as it was in all its natural glory - no need for any filter or extra lighting when the natural light makes colours pop quite this much!

Equipment

My trusty mobile phone! The lens set-up on a Huawei P20 Pro is pretty good for the majority of photographs, and as I don't own any other equipment at the moment, I've been trying to learn to use what I have to it's potential. I've since changed my phone since this shit was taken, due to a "clumsy moment" ????, I'll keep shooting away with the replacement until I can purchase a decent digital camera.

Inspiration

After trimming back a large rose bush which was keeping these beautiful flowers in shade, the way they seemed to scream their presence out loud couldn't be ignored!

Editing

No alterations here! I wanted to capture these in the most natural form possible, so I feel post-processing would have almost damaged the memory. I took a couple of images first then repeated (again waiting for breaks in the breeze), with macro setting enabled, and was happy with thr macro shot as it was without any need for processing.

In my camera bag

Just a mobile phone usually! Perhaps not as sophisticated as many digital cameras owned by friends and a couple of professionals I know, but it's almost always with me and ready to record those memories.

Feedback

Be ready, but patient! Sometimes I can pull my phone out and just snap away and capture what is, to my eyes anyway, a great image. Other times, such as with this image, a little patience is required - working WITH nature by simply waiting for a lull in the breeze or a cloud to blow over work infinitely better than trying to force your will on something natural!
