Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture in New York City around 34th avenue and 2nd and 3d avenue.

Time

In the afternoon with a still very generous twilight the sun bathed the side façade of the building and in its play of light and shadows I thought to capture the mystery of the light that was hidden in the recesses of the building.

Lighting

Although there was still time for night to fall on the roof of New York, I saw in that sunset of light, the possibility of capturing a natural and beautiful play of light and shadow, like petals of a flower made of bricks, volumes and black stones . A natural lighting that gave the idea of ??a puzzle that repeated itself ad infinitum,

Equipment

A Leica Camera M10, with a Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH lens.

Inspiration

As I approached the building, I saw an image of a strong connection between inside and outside. A building made with warm and welcoming materials. I thought immediately of Escher's paintings and I wanted some how to emulate with a picture such wonderful compostions.

Editing

This is originally a color photo that I processed as black and white only adjusting exposure and contrast.

In my camera bag

I like to travel and encounter the world with its streets and its people, but the part that corresponds to my interest, my vision and philosophy of life. Besides my walking shoes, normally I have with me two Leica Cameras, and one a monochrom, but this particular day I ran out of a battery.

Feedback

I recommend to walk around the city and photograph what spontaneously appears, but not all, a piece of landscape and the reality and the fiction that goes with it. I believe it is important to take the characters by surprise to avoid they influence their own representation. I advice to walk and learn about the narrative that space contains and discover the grammar of the city, but walking without a script to have the possibility to rewrite a monograph of the place.
