Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo near my home in Jacksonville, NC. The pathway and dock where this was taken is dedicated to a local Navy SEAL who was killed in Iraq.

Time

My family took a walk one evening to the dock and I caught my daughter just looking off into the distance.

Lighting

As the sun was setting it was a perfect setup to capture my daughter’s silhouette against the water’s reflection.

Equipment

I took this with my Cannon EOS Rebel T6.

Inspiration

When I saw my daughter looking off in the distance I thought it was a perfect shot to get at sunset. We originally went to the dock to try and see if we could see the alligators swimming along the river.

Editing

I processed this twice in Lightroom to enhance the silhouette and clarity in the water’s reflection.

In my camera bag

It sounds silly, but I always carry a backup power source. It’s amazing how many times I’ve had to recharge my batteries quickly because I’ve lost track of the battery level while out and about.

Feedback

I try and pay attention to where the sun is setting while out taking pictures in the evening. I also check when the sun is setting.
