Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Dovercourt Beach in Essex, it was my first trip out after the COVID lockdown started to ease.

Time

I took this on the cusp of sunset, I was facing east so was presented with the eerie blue rather than the burst of colour you expect at at sunset.

Lighting

The lighting was quite flat, which I think has added to the feel of the photo, I think it gives an interesting vibe to the photo.

Equipment

This was shot with a Sony A6000 with a Sony 50mm f1.8, equipped with an ND8 filter and sat on top of my Sherpa tripod.

Inspiration

I just really wanted to get out somewhere quiet and scenic after having been in the house for 3 months! It proved to be a very cathartic evening.

Editing

I didn’t do much post on this, I cleared the horizon of a couple of boats, and fixed the exposure slightly.

In my camera bag

I’m still in the process of building my kit, I usually take my a6000, 50mm prime, 18-105mm, 2 tripods and a selection of filters and spare cards/ batteries. If I think I have the time I will pack my Pentax ME super with a similar lens setup to get some nice films shots too.

Feedback

The coasts of England are full of interesting features from the past, it’s an excellent place to practice shots, especially when your trying to figure things like long exposure.
