Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo during an open photoshoot, organized by my photography friends. It was taken from the mountain areas from a province in the Philippines. The sun is well-lit behind the bushes where the model is standing, this giving those shadow patterns which I like.Time
Around 3:00PM. I love doing most of my portrait shoots outside and during this time, since the light is not that harsh, and I always get that sense of depth from my photos when shooting outdoors.Lighting
I am more of an ambient shooter. Thus, I rely heavily on the light around me. For this shot, I immediately saw the pattern of the shadows striking the model, which I am fascinated since light forms patterns behind the objects when struck. I then took that shot as we are walking towards the next section.Equipment
I used a Fujifilm XT1 for this shot. Lens used is a 7Artisan 35mm f1.2. One of my favorite lenses.Inspiration
I blend elements of nature in most of my portrait shots, which is a foundation of my style in doing editorial/concept shoots. I am also influenced by a lot of portrait photographers who shoot outdoors. Hence, the inspiration for this photo.Editing
I do a lot of post-processing in my images. My usual workflow for portraits start off by fixing the skin tone, then darkening the background. Grading colours using curves adjustment, then using hue/saturation layers to change colours. I also fix the white balance if I wanted to change the temperature of my photo if I wanted a certain mood that fits it.In my camera bag
I am a Fuji user, so my bag has my Fujifilm XT-1 and XT-20 in check. For my lenses, I have a Fujinon XF 35mm f2. Then the rest of my lenses are 7Artisan lenses. 25mm f1.8, 35mm f1.2, and a 55mm f1.4.Feedback
Always experiment on your photography in various ways, be it composition, concepts, framing. The possibilities are endless in the art of photography. And always check the light around you, making sure that the light shines perfectly in your shot as you wanted.
