Location
I took this photo while on vacation in the Catskill Mountains in NY. My sister lives there and the deer come wandering in her yard all the time.Time
This photo was taken in the early morning light. I think it was before nine in the morning and looked out to see several deer in the yard.Lighting
I liked the the angle of the light, it is somewhat diffused but still has strong shadows.Equipment
I used a Nikon D7200 and a Sigma 100-400mm lens.Inspiration
I love taking nature photos. I knew that I would be able to find deer and chipmunks around my sisters yard. I was disappointed that no bears were around, well maybe that was for the best.Editing
I use Adobe Bridge and Camera Raw for all my initial processing. Camera Raw gives me a lot of control over my image. I selectively lightened the eyes and ears and most likely gave the image a slight vignette. In my camera bag
Anymore my camera bag usually has my Sigma 100-400, Sigma 105 F2.8, a Bolt VM-160 Ring Light my Nikon D7200 and extra batteries, cleaning cloth and bug spray.Feedback
With most wildlife start taking your exposures from a distance, then slowly start approaching them. Let your subject get used to you. When I start my approach I start counting steps, usually like 10-15 steps and then take some more shots. It works sometimes and I can get fairly close.
