Location
I took this photo on the Galapagos Island of Santa Cruz before my wife and headed over via boat to the island of Isabella. This was a great vacation of a lifetime that took place in October of 2015.Time
5pm, that's what time it was, and we were lucky that is the time of the day when you don't have to worry about harsh light. It was bright out but the sun was not a factor in the direction I was shooting.Lighting
Natural light. It's the way to go, of course!Equipment
Canon 5D Mark II with a 70-200 lens. I wasn't able to get that close to these creatures or you would scare them away. Plus some of them were out of my camera reach footing wise. That's why I used this lens for this photo.Inspiration
The inspiration was being there in the Galapagos. With all the unique animals and scenery.Editing
A little bit. Some cloning of some of the rocks and just a wee bit of saturation of the crab itself. It was already very red!In my camera bag
Canon 5D Mark II, 24-105mm lens, 70-200mm lens with a 2x converter, all Canon. Brand new Sigma 150-600mm lens, and a Sigma 12-24mm wide angle. Manfrotto tri-pod.Feedback
Patience and take your time. Take as many photos as possible of that subject. Hopefully you get the shot that you want.
