This photo was taken in Kanneliya Rain forest near Galle, Sri Lanka. We were on the middle of a walk, down the green forest path when we came across this magnificent waterfall.Time
I absolutely adore this photo because everything happened at perfect timing. It was mid-morning whilst we were strolling down the forest path. People were playing in the waters so I waited for the perfect time. In order to take this shot there had to be no one else! I laid my camera on the rock and took a longer exposure photo in order to get the silky effect of the water.Lighting
Timing was everything for this photo. The shadows had to be just right to make it a little mysterious. This was aided by forest cover, of course. The idea I was going with, was trekking new and undiscovered regions that are untouched by mankind. The aim of this photo was to capture the pristine nature of this rain forest.Equipment
I used my Nikon D700 and also used a rock as my tripod since I wasn't carrying any gear on the day. The lens used is a 24-120mm at f/22 to capture as much as possible in focus.Inspiration
The photo was a masterpiece the moment I laid my eyes on this waterfall. I also love my country, Sri Lanka, and wanted to capture its raw and natural beauty.Editing
Yes I did, but not a lot. With these type of photos, one fears a slight over exposure due to the longer shutter. I just adjusted some of the greens, contrast and shadows. The photo was almost perfect straight out of the camera. In my camera bag
I pack lightly. Just a camera and a lens. To me, photography is in the eye and that makes it my best tool. I also prefer to use my surroundings to capture interesting angles and etc.Feedback
When taking photos like these, lower your ISO because you are going to get a slightly over-exposed photo. Use a longer shutter in order to get the silky texture of the water. Make sure there is no camera shake of course! Lastly, use your instincts!
