Location
The photo was taken in my garden in Lucknow, India. My mom and I have green fingers. This shot is of an Indian rose that we planted a few months back.Time
I water the plants every morning. I vividly remember that morning when I was watering the plants and I spotted this budding rose. I quickly grabbed my camera and snapped this shot. It was around 7 AM in the morning.Lighting
We all know how important lighting is to photography. I wanted this photo to have a dramatic vibe hence I shot it early in the morning when the sun was just coming up and the light was very soft. I positioned myself in such a way that the light source was behind me. This allowed me to cut off the light from the surroundings and achieve the look that I was going for.Equipment
This was shot on Nikon D5200 with an AF-S 18-55mm VRII kit lens. No other equipment was involved.Inspiration
I was watering the plants and this vivid red rosebud caught my attention. It was the only bud in that plant and no plants near it were so vibrant. The colors were just perfect. I felt a soothing emotion when I saw this and felt that this should be shared with the world.Editing
I always shoot in RAW because I don't want to lose on the details of the colors from my photos. So, like every other photo that I shoot, this also went through a round of color grading and that's it. I like to keep the post-processing minimal and subtle. In my camera bag
I always carry my Nikon D5200, which was the first camera that I bought from my own earning. I usually carry AF-S 18-55mm VRII and AF-S 55-200mm VRII lenses with it. I use a Benro Tripod. And yes, for those buttery smooth slow-mos and fast-paced action shots, I carry a Go Pro Hero7.Feedback
Capturing shots in one's backyard or garden are the most accessible locations for any photographer. Try shooting in soft light because it will let the luminance of the plants or flowers to actually show their full effect (this is only applicable for similar shots to this one). You can experiment with hard light and create some amazing compositions with harsh shadows. If you have a tripod, use it. It'll add more stability and clarity to the shot. And if you are familiar with focus stacking, use it. This shot doesn't have any stacking though. All the best!
