Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in my backyard, here in Bangalore, India. I have got green fingers and usually spend a good hour taking care of the plants in my backyard. I spotted an eagle flying in the vicinity and took out my camera waiting for it to pass over the garden so that I could snap this.

Time

This was taken at the golden hour around 05:00 PM IST. The lighting was just perfect as the shades of pink and orange bled into the blue sky giving this image a surreal vibe.

Lighting

Golden hour is a great time to shoot colorful shots. The lighting in this shot is noteworthy. We can notice the surreal pink bleeding subtly in the orange-ish-blue sky.

Equipment

This was shot on Nikon D5200 with an AF-S 18-55mm VRII kit lens. No other equipment was involved.

Inspiration

Honestly speaking, the hue of the sky. That's it. It was so surreal that I had to snap a photo. The flying eagle added a punch to it.

Editing

I always shoot in RAW because I don't want to lose on the details of the colors from my photos. So, like every other photo that I shoot, this also went through a round of color grading and that's it. I like to keep the post-processing minimal and subtle.

In my camera bag

I always carry my Nikon D5200, which was the first camera that I bought from my own earning. I usually carry AF-S 18-55mm VRII and AF-S 55-200mm VRII lenses with it. I use a Benro Tripod. And yes, for those buttery smooth slow-mos and fast-paced action shots, I carry a Go Pro Hero7.

Feedback

Patience. It took me 20 minutes of continuous shooting and trying angles to get this shot. So my tip would be to not give up after a few tries. Keep trying and trust, the end result would be worth it.
