Location
This photo was taken in Dubrovnik, on the steps up toward Fort Lovrijenac. This sight is overlooking the Old Town, encapsulated by city walls.Time
After an exciting day of exploring the Dubrovnik Old Town, famously known as the filming location of Game of Thrones' King's Landing, the ascent toward Fort Lovrijenac was next on the list. This was taken on February 23, at 4:15 PM. The steep walk up the many stairs was grueling but worth it for the views!Lighting
The time of day was perfect to catch the alluring colour of the clear ocean water, without sunlight reflecting in a way that might obscure the view to the bottom. The water was incredibly clean and people were seen swimming on the other side of the Old Town.Equipment
This was shot with a simple Samsung Galaxy S7, aperture 17/10, focal length 420/100, no flash, no other equipment.Inspiration
I'm a very enthusiastic Game of Thrones fan, and I was photographing constantly throughout this vacation. This particular photo shows several sights you would have noticed in the show. The area you see is called West Harbour, which is used as Blackwater Bay in the show and can be seen in several scenes such as when Sansa and Shae play a guessing game. You also see The City Walls, which you can see in the show multiple times such as when Tyrion and Lord Varys are discussing Stannis Baratheon in season 2. Fort Bokar is also in the background of that scene, and you can see it in the center of this photo. The view is from the steps toward Fort Lovrijenac (not pictured), which was the Red Keep in the show.Editing
Amazingly, very few of my photos from Dubrovnik required post-processing, as the views are so naturally stunning in this picturesque city. This photo was not post-processed, so the colours you see are representative of reality. In my camera bag
I'm still saving up for a more professional camera, so right now I carry around a simple NIKON D3100. When I need to capture a shot more quickly, I usually use my cellphone considering the higher quality of their cameras these days. Specifically I'm either using a Samsung Galaxy S7 or a Blackberry KeyTwo for most of my shots.Feedback
The beauty of Dubrovnik is that the weather tends to be great most days. This was taken in late winter and it was still beautiful. To avoid large crowds, do consider going during off-season. Ensure that you're aware of the impact the sun has when reflecting off the water, in order to best capture the true essence of the water's clarity.
