Behind The Lens

Location

During a safari trip in Kruger National Park in South Africa we stayed at Sabi Sabi little Bush camp and a rogue Elephant was wandering around the campsite..He came very close to our private cabin and I took this photo from our terrace as he peered through the bush a few metres away.

Time

It was during our afternoon naptime around 3 pm when we heard loud rustling in the bush outside our bedroom window

Lighting

The only light was the natural afternoon sunlight reflecting off the green humid African bushland

Equipment

For this shot I used my Olympus bridge camera with integrated zoom lens as it was the closest in my reach to capture the urgency of the moment

Inspiration

The moment of surprise was awe inspiring. The bull elephant reminded me of a "peeping Tom" peeking into our bedroom

Editing

The only editing was to sharpen the contrast in exposure in Photoshop Creative Suite and nothing else. The beauty and vivid colours are the natural setting in Africa and need very little altering. I am a believer in old school camera settings to do the work and not too much post processing

In my camera bag

I carry all my camera equipment in a purpose made backpack with a Canon 700D, Canon 550, Canon PowerShot, Canon lens EFS18-200mm, Sigma lens 150-500 mm and a gopro

Feedback

The only advice is get to know your camera settings really well and practise with exposure, shoot continuous for action shooting and set on portraits or landscape depending on your shoots Always have your camera with you for those lucky moments
