Location
This photo was taken at my home in Hood River, Oregon. My house is practically surrounded by orchards that gift us with yearlong beauty.Time
I was on an evening walk and realized the sun was sitting at the perfect angle to the west. I prefer winter and spring because the shorter days make sunrises and sunsets so accessible.Lighting
The golden light was shooting through the orchard branches and highlighting the blooms. All I had was my phone, so I tried my best to capture the view! The sun flare was what really made this photo stand out to me.Equipment
Another reason I love this photo is because it was captured on my iPhone. There was no professional equipment involved, yet the mood and magnificence still shone through.Inspiration
Living around orchards, it's easy to overlook the beauty and get caught up in day to day activities. There are tourists here year round, and plenty of people who wish they could live among nature this way. When I saw the way the blooms looked in the evening light, I remembered all of this. I felt such gratitude while taking this photo.Editing
Since it was taken on my iPhone, I just reduced the exposure and highlights so that the structure of the trees was complimented by the sunlight. I then used a preset that was greatly reduced. This way, the photo could feel finished while still being organic. In my camera bag
No equipment at all! Just my trusty iPhone 11 in my back pocket and all of the photography tools it allows.Feedback
Dawn and dusk give huge favors for lighting, and it gives you a lot to work with in post. Put yourself in nature this time of day with or without a camera. At the very least, you will be inspired and have direction for what you want to capture and evoke.
