Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the road I live on while on an evening walk. I have no professional photography experience, so any chance to practice on a beautiful subject like this is so helpful!

Time

The sun was setting around 6 pm, which cast an array of warm tones on the mountain to the south. The orchard blooms provided a natural frame.

Lighting

I wanted the lighting to reflect the mood of the setting. I worked with the highlights and curves to bring out the mellow warmth in the blossoms and the sky.

Equipment

This was shot on my regular iPhone 11 camera with no flash or tripod. I am lucky it turned out well!

Inspiration

This time of year in the Pacific Northwest it is rare to get a clear view of the mountain. I was enjoying the setting sun through the orchard trees, and when I saw the mountain I knew I needed to take advantage of this amazing view.

Editing

No post-processing, I would love to learn more about it in the future though.

In my camera bag

I don't carry anything but my phone!

Feedback

My advice would be to plan ahead! Know when the sun starts to set and get set up in time to capture all different stages of light against the scenery. This way you have much more to work with.
