The Kilauea Volcano, located on the Big Island of Hawaii, is the most active volcano in the world. The 1959 volcanic eruption collapsed the rim of the volcano and created a lava lake 400 feet deep (120 meters). It took 36 years for the molten lava deep inside to harden. Today, the trail crossing through the photograph is 4 miles in distance. As you walk on the trail you can feel the heat below you.
