Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken just outside my front door in Calabasas, CA. With stay-at-home requirements, we take what we can in terms of photo opportunities.

Time

The photo was taken mid afternoon on April 1, 2020.

Lighting

For macro work, I have found a ring flash to be extremely useful. It enables me to light and showcase my subject while making the background fade out.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 5D Mark IV with a Canon 100 mm macro lens, using a Yongnuo YN14EX flash ring lite.

Inspiration

Just walking by the rose bush, I saw a lone bloom. Had to take the shot.

Editing

Using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, I made minimal adjustments of exposure, contrast and tonality.

In my camera bag

My camera, a lens or two, a speedlight, and whatever else moves me for my shoot requirements.

Feedback

Literally, stop and smell the roses. Take the time to observe what nature provides around you.
