Oh my, is this a new language?

Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken on my dining room table. I am a self-taught photographer, so every photo I take, is like a new and exciting adventure.
Time
This is probably one of my favorite food photos to date! I am thankful for my daughter's baking creations, as they bring out my creativity in photography. I remember not using my tripod, because I was too lazy to go and get it from my car. I placed the camera directly on the table as too steady the shot, and used my self timer. I just loved the reflection I was getting from that vantage point. It was March 28, 2020 at 6:54pm in the evening.
Lighting
I watch the light in my house all the time, and at different seasons the light is always different. This is strictly window light. I have very big windows all around my house and I use that to my advantage. This photo was taken in my dining room which has two big windows, it is filtered light because we have a sunporch thats right off of our dining room. The kitchen is also bringing in light, which also has two big windows and the living room which has five big windows. I am getting light from ever direction. Light is the game changer here!
Equipment
For this shot, I used my trusty Nikon D-7200, with my nifty 50mm f/1.8D lens, no other equipment was used.
Inspiration
I am always looking for new opportunities to get creative with my photography. My daughter does that with her baking. She is very creative in her baking endeavors. Plus she is thinking about opening her own bakery, so its always good to have some delicious looking photos to draw people in so they will want it for themselves.
Editing
I usually try to get it right in camera as much as possible and then do a little post processing. On this particular photo I just used my editing program that is on my mac computer. I aways shoot in raw so it is much easier to tweak my photos, and I always under expose my photos so its easier to fix.
In my camera bag
I usually carry my trusty Nikon D-7200 and always my nifty 50mm f 1.8D. I also have my 18mm-140 wide angle, which I use a lot, and my 55-300mm which quite frankly I do not use very much. It was a gift from my hubby. I really need a longer lens...Someday. I also carry a speed light.
Feedback
There is an advantage to photographing inside your home or in a studio. Usually your light is constant or you can change it, to get it just right. In this photo I was using window light. Which can change just as quickly as if I were outside. My advise is to know where to capture the light in your home or studio and put your subject in it. Have fun and try something new and fun. I am usually a adventure photographer, this time my adventure was right inside my home in this crazy pandemic.
