Location
This photo was taken in Midland MI, my hometown at Dow Gardens. I was practicing and taking photos for a photography class that I was taking at a local community college. I am mostly self taught but I have taken a few classes here and there just so I can take more photos and learn from other photographers.Time
This is one of my favorite photos! I was very pleased to get that milky affect in camera! This photo was taken on April 21, 2017 at 8:50pm.Lighting
This was taken in the evening and Dow Gardens was close to closing so I did not have much time. This is natural light and some artificial light to the left of me. I slowed my shutter speed down so I could get the milky affect. The sun was going down and in the perfect position coming through the trees to give me the perfect light.Equipment
This was shot on my Nikon D-7200 at ISO 100 at !8mm at F/22 and of course I was on a tripod.Inspiration
I was inspired by looking at other photos of waterfalls on YouTube. I wanted to recreate something beautiful and practice my craft. So this was the closest waterfall right in town. I am very pleased with this image. I hope to do some more this year in Munising MI.Editing
I do a little post processing. I try really hard to get most of it right in camera. I do not want my photos to be over-processed because I believe in the natural beauty in the scene I am creating.In my camera bag
I always carry my Nikon D-7200 with my 50mm lens attached to it. I also have my 18mm-140mm DX along with my Nikon DX 55-300mm and my Nikon speed-light SB-700 for those tricky situations and my Polaroid filters. I also have lens paper to clean my lens. This is all in my backpack ready to go at all times.Feedback
My advice is use a tripod for these waterfall shots in the evening. Watch YouTube videos on how others capture their waterfall photos and create your own! Be patient and never give up!
