Behind The Lens
Location
This photo of the Dolomite mountains was taken in northern Italy while my wife and I were with a tour group that went to Austria, Switzerland and northern Italy.Time
This photo was taken in the early afternoon on what was obviously an overcast, drizzly day.Lighting
Overcast skies are great for photographs as colors are more saturated, contrast is reduced and there is no problem with the scene exceeding the dynamic range of you camera's ability to capture it.Equipment
This photo was taken 2007 on a Canon Digital Rebel XT camera handheld, no flash, Canon 28-300mm zoom lens @ 28mm.Inspiration
the overcast day and fog on the mountains produced the mood I wanted for this autumn scene.Editing
Yes, this image was post-processed for exposure, contrast, and saturation. In my camera bag
When traveling I try to keep things simple and light. On a trip like this one I usually take 2 camera bodies and two lenses: an ultra telephoto (currently a Tamron 18-400mm) and a wide angle (either a Canon 10-24mm for a crop sensor or a Tokina 14-22mm for full frame)Feedback
When in doubt and you only have a short time to get a photo (as when with a tour group), bracket your exposures and shot RAW if possible.
