Fun fact. Blue Jays aren't really blue. Finding blue pigment in nature is very rare. Their feathers are actually brown, but do to a neat trick called light scattering and do to tiny pocket of air and keratin. You know that thing that our hair and nails are made out of. When light hits these pockets all of the colors of wavelength except blue are absorbed. That color is refracted, which is why we see them as this vivid blue.
