Location
This photo was taken at a Scout camp in Southern Germany near Haunstein in July 2018. We were there for 3 days.Time
It was when most of Europe had the very hot weather in 2018. I had struggled to sleep that night. I gave up trying to sleep just after 04:00 and just wandered about taking photos and enjoying the peace (which is rare on a Scout camp) just before dawn. According to photo data the photograph was taken a 04:04, however that is BST. This means the photo was taken at 05:04 local time.Lighting
Lighting wise it was just patience and luck really. As soon as the mist started to rise I knew there would be a chance of some good photos in the mist.Equipment
I used Nikon D7100 with a Tamron 18 - 400 zoom at 210mm focal length, Shutter 1/10s at f11. Didn't carry a tripod so I set the camera on a rock.Inspiration
It was fantastic sun rise and I knew there would opportunities for great photographs when the ground started to heat up. There were other shots of that tree in the mist but my patience paid off when I waited that little bit longer for the sun to shine through the mist.Editing
Very little post-processing. Just took down the highlights. In my camera bag
I normally have my Nikon D7100 with 18 - 400mm lens attatched. Other lens that I carry are a Nikon 10 - 20mm wide lens and 40mm Micro lens. Nikon SB-700 Speed Flash. Polarizer filter and a UV Filter. I carry a Manfrotto MTPIXI-B mini tripod in my bag. I also have Manfrotto Tripod and monopod but I only carry them for specialists work.Feedback
Southern Germany is very picturesque with lots of mountains, forests and picturesque villages where the people are very welcoming and helpful. This type of shot can be taken any similar place. First thing in the morning is best just after sun rise and when the previous day has been hot. Knowing when the sun reaches that spot is useful and really it's down to luck and patience.
